Long COVID Chronicles

Blog

Since November 2023, I have lived a modified life subjected to the variable symptoms of Long COVID. July 2024, I started writing about this journey. Long COVID is a journey of many unknowns, including how many others are on a similar path. Possibly 7% of US residents actively have Long COVID with potentially over 17% having had it since the virus began. This blog will hopefully attain three goals:

  • help me maintain perspective as I continue on this journey,
  • share what works for me with others on a similar journey, and
  • help increase understanding of the experience for those who are fortunate enough not to be on this journey.
  • Invisible Disabilities

Long COVID is an invisible disability. I have learned to use a prop when I need people to be patient with me as I try to move about in the able-bodied world.

  • Will the Social Safety Net Catch Us?

Social security disability was established in the 1950s to provide a safety net for people who experience disabilities. For those with Long COVID, a disability, that safety net is often pulled away leaving people to fall flat and hard.

  • Trust 2

We place an immense amount of trust in medical practitioners who provide us with care, some of who don’t deserve it.
