As I described earlier this week, anxiety makes Long COVID symptoms worse. Medical professionals treating patients with Long COVID sometimes overemphasize the anxiety, perhaps because that is something they are comfortable medicating.
I have been told “don’t be anxious,” as if the anxiety is the root cause of the Long COVID. Fortunately (?), I have been dealing with anxiety all my life (I’m the kid who threw up from social anxiety at the sleepover) and I know that approach is BS.
I don’t, nor does anyone else, have Long COVID because we are anxious. We are anxious because we have Long COVID and no one can tell us why or help us recover from it. The only help we can get, if we are lucky, is symptom management and tips for how to live with the condition.
